The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything. ~Warren Buffett
The motto of this Equinox is “Go For It!”
New moon is a beautiful time to burn, clear and reset. I have taken the last 11 days on a staycation, this is the longest time I have been at home and not been pouring out a massive amount of work. Being an entrepreneur and so passionate about health, wellness nutrition in yoga, there is never really a ‘day off’. This reprieve was so much needed. I didn’t even write or work on the final edits of my book.
I have learned in these last 11 days, that we need time to set, be still, and even if we’re doing something that we think it’s for the better, sometimes it’s best to do nothing.
I have been able to sit with the fact that my little best friend has crossed over, and I’m OK with that.
I have been able to sit with the fact that I need to create more time in my life to play. Play with my dogs, ride my horses and train them, and especially play with my daughter who is not so little anymore.
I have been able to sit with the fact that being out in nature is how I refuel.
I have been able to sit with the fact that getting off on social media and only getting on it on appropriate times is good for the soul.
I have had a realization that by unplugging and disconnecting to all the periphery things in my life and really listening to Spirit to what needs to have laser focus Will create a very fast and fluid manifestation of the life that I dream.
Lastly, I have been able to sit with myself. With that being said I have examined all the things that I continue to add on to my plate, and realize that so many of these things are fun and beautiful and awesome, however to end with this quote from Steve Jobs,
Jobs prophetically supported this notion of saying no at an Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in 1997.
People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things. ~Steve Jobs
Here are seven things the most successful people say no to on a regular basis. Perhaps you should too?
1. They say no to opportunities and things that don’t excite them, speak to their values, or further their mission in life.
2. They say no to superficial networking events in which people swap business cards and never hear from one another. Why? Because successful people don’t network. They build relationships.
3. They say no to spending time with uninspiring, critical, or negative people who drag them down. Time is precious — choose a small circle of people who will energize you and challenge you to be better.
4. They say no to overworking. While it’s true some successful people and many entrepreneurs put in 60 to 80 hours per week, very successful people aren’t workaholics who neglect self-care and family. They recognize that if they can’t take care of themselves, everything else suffers.
5. They say no to doing all the work. This comes down to one word:
D-E-L-E-G-A-T-I-O-N.
6. They say no to giving the steering wheel of life to anyone else. Another Buffett quote affirms this: “You’ve gotta keep control of your time and you can’t unless you say no. You can’t let people set your agenda in life.”
7. They say no to people-pleasing. Successful people don’t neglect their deepest wishes and desires to accommodate and yield to others’ wishes and desires.
1. Write down a list of your top 25 career goals.
2. Circle the five most important goals that truly speak to you. These are your most urgent goals.
Now here’s the real kicker.
3. Completely eliminate the other 20 goals you have listed. Just cross them off, despite if they hold weight or some level of importance.
Buffett says those 20 goals are lower and not urgent priorities, therefore, any effort invested in them steals away dedicated focus and energy from your five highest-priority goals.
The point is to say no to everything on that list except for what you have declared, in your heart-of-hearts, to be the five most important things. These are what you should put all your effort and focus into achieving. The rest are merely distractions that will get in the way of your reaching your ultimate success.
Dan Pink states in The Wall Street Journal:
A 2016 study published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity showed that hourly five-minute walking breaks boosted energy levels, sharpened focus, and “improved mood throughout the day and reduced feelings of fatigue in the late afternoon.” These “microbursts of activity,” as the researchers called them, were also more valuable than a single 30-minute walking break. And regular short walking breaks increase motivation and concentration and enhance creativity, according to researchers at Stanford University.
And when taking your breaks, detach completely. That means no emails, texts, etc. When you lose the tech and stop multitasking on breaks, it eases your stress and boosts your mood in a way that multitasking breaks do not.
This equinox launches a time of productivity with mindfulness and awareness of choices that were the result of any New Moon insights. It his time to be proactive with your desires and intentions! With this change of season comes greater clarity on what needs to be changed and moved in your life. Take advantage of this adventurous, risk-taking personality and allow it to help you overcome your fear of failure. Let’s GO FOR IT!
